The Weakness Factor

While there is no end to the amount of preparation you can do for an interview, it always pays to deal with some of the common interview questions which tend to be a regular feature. Although there is no specific rulebook which states that you must do as we direct, having these tips can definitely turn out to be very useful.

The one question which we are going to focus on today has to be the one dealing with weakness. If you have quite a lot of experience with interviews, it is likely that you must have been questioned as to what are your weaknesses. Now, be honest and tell how well you have answered it.

This is one of the tricky questions which many applicants fail to answer properly. Let us see the ideal way of tackling it.

Why does the interviewer ask this question?

You should always try and find out the main aim of the interviewer when asking this question. If you can sense his motive, you can frame your answer in such a way that you will be able to impress your interviewer.

Let us see the possible reasons.

  • He really wants to know what your weakness is.
  • He wants to judge your honesty
  • He wants to analyze how critical you are of your own abilities
  • He wants to put you under stress and see how you behave
  • He asks this because it is another common question

Now, regardless of what his motive is behind asking this question, you can be sure that he is actually looking to judge you. So, you need to come up with an answer which is convincing, true and at the same time something which can be worked upon.

Suppose you are applying for the job of a programmer and you end up saying coding is my weakness or even Java is my weakness. This will definitely be a major setback for your interview. Why would someone hire a programmer who hates coding? Granted, there are a lot of programmers working in some of the biggest MNCs who are terrible at coding, but then again, this is not the right thing to state as a weakness.

So, how to be honest?

The key here is to list such weakness which doesn’t turn out to be a major requisite for the job you are applying to. For example, for the job profile of a programmer, you can say something along the lines of, ‘Working with decision loop is one of my weaknesses.”

Try and be specific and try to list minor weaknesses which can either be ignored or improvised. This way you will be able to stick to honesty and yet not hurt your selection chances. Also, one of the weaknesses can be neutral too like too much liking for food.

One of the key things we need to add here is that do not make the mistake of disguising strength as a weakness. Those days of trying this old formula are not going to work anymore. The interviewers are aware of those tricks too.

Telling things like “I am a workaholic and tend to prioritize my work over meeting with friends” is never a good idea. First of all, it can be used against you and secondly, your interviewer isn’t a fool and he will definitely realize that you are bluffing. Do you really want yourself to be stuck in such a situation?

So, now that you have these tips, you can decide the right ways of answering this question. Sometimes, all it takes is one right answer which can make all the difference. Remember, during the interview, you cannot afford to be negligent and you should pay heed to every single question. You never know which answer may be analyzed meticulously to decide whether or not to select you.

As the stakes are really high, you have to be sure that you are giving your best. Do not be afraid of talking about your weakness, after all, no one is expected to know everything. It is okay to have some weakness, but it is not okay to not know what they are.

How To Become Fluent In English?

You might be wondering why it is important to be so fluent in English or how to speak English fluently. There are numerous reasons for it. English is the international language and the de facto standard for all. This is why if you are fluent in English, you might be able to bag some of the best jobs in top-tier cities of the world.

I have myself seen some very average employees secure big packages merely because of their impeccable hold of the English language. So, if you too would like to fancy the chance of a six-digit salary, maybe it is time you need to focus on your fluency in the English language.

The accent matters

Some of us believe that speaking English is all about the ability to have your ideas across and to have a good vocabulary and sound grammar. This is wrong on too many levels. When it comes to fluency in English, your accent carries a great deal of importance too.

People living in different parts of the world have varying accent. Some of us have a very thick accent which makes it hard for native speakers to understand us. This could be a major deterrent and this is why you will have to work on your accent to ensure that you can flatten it and have it on par with the native speakers. No, this is neither too easy nor impossible.

What you need to understand is that this is a process which is bound to take a lot of time. So, it will become your responsibility to sharpen your proficiency of the English language and at the same time work on your accent as well.

Do not be unnatural and fake

Some of us make the mistake of going for fake accents. Once again, this is a mistake which needs to be avoided. You need to first work on getting rid of the thickness of your accent and then slowly try and have an accent which is easily understandable by international speakers. However, do not blindly imitate and/or copy them. This will let your accent have that fake touch.

Keep practicing and with time, the changes will come. You can take up a lot of video courses and with time, you will begin to notice the change in your accent.

The foundation

Apart from the accent, another important thing which you need to be considerate about has to be the kind of grammatical strength which you have. Until and unless you work on basics of the grammar, you won’t be fluent in the language.

It might look a little daunting at the start, but you need to understand how to work things out later. Try with some little basic steps and then keep practicing. There is absolutely nothing which practice can’t perfect and this is why you need to have a perseverant attitude and brush your fundamentals of the English language.

The belief within

All in all, it is important that you have the eagerness and the zeal to make a difference. You should have the belief that you can perfect the language and you will be able to hone your skills in that department.

If you can be fully fluent in English, you will be able to get your ideas across in an apt manner and this, in turn, could be great for your career. Those who can tackle the commutation barrier and establish the right networking channel are the ones that are most likely to get a promotion and excel at their work front.

Being fluent in a language is possible, all you really need to do is ensure that you are putting in the best of efforts, have the right belief in your abilities and continue to strive hard. Sooner or later, the change will be there for you to see.

Being adept in the international langue will definitely open up a world of opportunities for you. I have seen a lot of people become hugely successful simply because they knew how to communicate well and convince others. You too can do that.

Landing Interviews – The Résumé Factor

The dilemma of not having a job can be very daunting. There are endless people who toil day in and day out looking for that one job opportunity which could turn around their career. If you too are stuck in the same lane; it is about time to do things differently.
No matter how many failed interviews you have, your aim should be to create as many opportunities as you can. The more interviews you attend, the more experience you will get. The worst case scenario is one where you don’t even get an interview call. So, if you are looking to land an interview call, here is one of the important things you need to do.
Your résumé
We all know how important and powerful the résumé is. When you submit an application, it is your résumé which is used in order to filter out your application. The selection panel has not seen you, they have no idea as to who you are, what your personality is, your strength and/or weakness, but merely on the basis of your résumé, the decision is taken. So, ideally, that in itself should be enough for you to understand the kind of importance which your résumé has.
This is why you need to work really hard on your resume. If you have a really good résumé, the odds of getting an interview call will increase drastically. So, here we are going to tell you exactly what you need to do.
Longer isn’t necessarily better
Just because your résumé is long, it doesn’t by any means infer that it is better. The length of a résumé is not the right yardstick to measure its effectiveness. That being said; you need to ensure that you are filling in all the particulars well. Your inability to enter all the required information will turn out to be a major drawback.
Some companies end up offering their own resume format which you need to duly fill. If not, you should have a standard and professional format that will serve the need in an impeccable manner.
The résumé objective
If the number of applicants far exceeds the vacancies, the selection panel may not even have the time to meticulously go through the whole resume. In such cases, they often skim through the résumé and only check the résumé objective. This makes the objective even more crucial.
Ideally, your résumé objective should list the goals you have and the skills you possess. Give the best snapshot of what you are capable of achieving and what you aspire to achieve. If drafted well, it will maximize your selection chances by nearly three times.
You can always check out some of the top resumes as that would give you some idea regarding how to craft your résumé in the perfect way.
